Journalism students discussed the impact of disinformation with a Slovak professor
On September 5, students of the Faculty of Journalism of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv met with Dr. Peter Kravchak, a lecturer at the Catholic University in Ružomberok (Slovakia). The meeting was held with the support of the Visegrad Fund within the framework of the project “Countering Russian Disinformation in Ukraine and EU Countries: Effective Fact-Checking”.
The topic of the lecture was “Challenges of Disinformation and Propaganda in the Modern Online Environment of Slovakia”. The lecturer spoke about the mechanisms of propaganda dissemination, emphasizing that Telegram has become the main channel for the dissemination of fakes and anti-Western narratives.
Peter Kravchak noted that after 2022, Slovakia has become particularly vulnerable to external information influence due to social polarization. He also emphasized the importance of critical thinking, fact-checking, and strategic communication to counter disinformation.
Students actively participated in the discussion, drew parallels with the Ukrainian context, and shared their own observations regarding information challenges.
