“Uniweek” project at the Faculty of Journalism
From November 10 to 14, Lviv University hosted the sixth wave of the career guidance project “Uniweek”. This is an initiative of the Student Government, thanks to which during the week, schoolchildren learned what it is like to be a student. This year, 300 students in grades 10-11 attended lectures, practical and laboratory classes, talked with teachers and learned about university life from students. For schoolchildren, this is an opportunity to find a future direction for their studies or to be sure of their dream specialty.
18 project participants visited the Faculty of Journalism. They not only attended lectures and performed creative tasks in practical classes, but also had the opportunity to listen to guest speakers during several lectures. In particular, blogger Daria Koval, who shared her experience of promotion on social networks. Iryna Sharova spoke about the coverage of Crimean topics in the media. The students also listened to an online lecture by Serbian-Ukrainian journalist Borys Varga about the media of the Balkan countries.
“It was interesting and fascinating. I especially liked hearing about foreign media. Every day was full of something new. I understand that, probably, when I enter, there will be no such vivid impressions, but now the interest in this specialty has increased. There is a family spirit within the walls of the faculty and the main building. Everyone respects each other, and this has strengthened the conviction that this is my community,” shared Maksym Gurkovsky, a participant in the “Uniweek” project at the Faculty of Journalism.
Traditionally, on the first and last days of the project, high school students spent time with the Student Council of the Faculty of Journalism, learned about the work of the organization, visited the “FrankoTV” television studio, and attended an informal meeting with active students, where they had the opportunity to win prizes for their knowledge in the field of media.
“Together with the Student Council, we tried to create an interesting and eventful schedule of classes so that the participants could comprehensively understand journalism as a future profession. We also entertained them with various quizzes and workshops, because student life is not only about couples. After the project, we received very sincere feedback from all the participants, so we will wait for them at the faculty as students in September,” said Bozhena Bortnovska, head of the Student Council of the Faculty of Journalism.
It should be noted that some participants of past waves of “Uniweek” became students of the Faculty of Journalism, which indicates the benefits of the project in choosing a future profession.
