The Faculty of Journalism of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv supports close academics
relations with foreign educational institutions and scientific institutions, in particular with Ukrainian Free
University in Munich (Germany), Warsaw University, Wroclaw University, Jagiellonian University
University, Catholic University in Lublin, Marie Curie-Skłodowska University (Poland),
University of Pennsylvania (USA) and others.
The faculty conducts joint scientific seminars, teachers exchange pedagogical and scientific experience,
participate in scientific conferences at partner institutions. Scientific contacts with the editors have been established
of the Polish scientific journal “Media i Spoleczeństwo” (“Media and Society”) within the X International
scientific conference on the topic “Media in the public space – Public space in the media”, which took place on 13
December 2019 at the Technical and Humanitarian Academy in Bielsko-Biała (Poland)
In April 2013, we started long-term cooperation with our colleagues from Otto Friedrich University
in Bamberg, Germany. The main topic of joint scientific and media critical investigations and their discussions
became the potential of new media in the political sphere.
The first meeting took place in Lviv. In 3 days, 3 dozens of teachers, young scientists and students briefly
outlined the main directions of development of the political potential of new and social media, including
discussed the challenges to traditional journalism created by these new formats of creation, distribution and
exchange of information.
The next meeting took place already in autumn 2014 in Bamberg. Twenty teachers and students of ours
departments took part in a week-long seminar at a German university, again devoting themselves to scientific,
media-critical and student studies of the political potential of new media in the Ukrainian context
Revolutions of Dignity acquired a distinctly practical character and provoked lively discussion.
Our German colleagues contributed to the active inclusion of our students in reality for a week
European journalistic space, in particular we visited local radio, television and newsrooms
daily newspaper and had the opportunity to talk with media practitioners. We, in turn, brought
student photo exhibition about Euromaidan.
The exchange of experience with German colleagues is currently ongoing online.

the ethos for conferences, meetings etc. will be inclusive and interactive (in the spirit of SCL – the British
Laboratories for strategic communication).
Materials for many key activities/processes during the development of project work blocks,
stemming largely from the recent ALIGN project. These materials and practices are already well understood

vital to the timely achievement of our goals.

compliance with the requirements of each university.
The difference between new and revised plans is not easy. We anticipate that major changes will be made
to most curricula of bachelor’s and master’s programs in many areas (educational
plan and pedagogy, practical skills training, assessment, industry engagement, etc.), but they do not
change their titles (and specialties from which degrees/diplomas will be awarded), so they do not have
technically qualify as “new” courses. We know that these are programs that already exist: they are not new courses
in this sense.
Of course, the three educational programs that will be in online access mode will necessarily consist of
completely new courses (“Online courses on spreading media literacy”). It will also provide training
study opportunities for master’s students under new/revised academic programs.
Expected results:
-
Qualitative changes in journalism education in Ukraine thanks to the analysis, evaluation, revision of existing and
implementation of new or revised curricula for 9 bachelor’s and 11 master’s programs
programs for training journalists in 10 Ukrainian universities according to the European framework
qualifications (EQF) and in accordance with European standards of integrity and professionalism. -
Development of national recommendations for the training of journalists in undergraduate programs and
master’s degree in Ukraine. -
Creation of networking and cooperation between universities, national employers and
student self-government in the field of training journalists in Ukraine. -
Creation of network interaction and cooperation between universities, professional organizations with
of Ukraine and EU member states in the field of training journalists. -
Development of online courses on media literacy for target groups – non-specialists in the field
of journalism, media and communications. -
Creation and launch of a specialized website for further distribution and use
of the results of the DESTIN project.
